Matthew Armstrong

(1958– )

A professional composer since 1992, Dr. Matthew Armstrong has written upwards of 100 musical compositions and has been the recipient of a Standard Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) annually since the year 2000. A native of NW Ohio, Armstrong earned the Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Education degrees from Heidelberg College, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa. He has served on the faculty of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and taught in several public school districts in Ohio. Armstrong’s published works are represented by Alliance Music Publications, Houston, Texas, Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, MO and Hinshaw Music, Chapel Hill, NC. His writings have appeared in the OMEA TRIAD, the ACDA Choral Journal and in MENC’s Teaching Music. Dr. Armstrong is active as a commission composer, festival conductor and clinician, and has conducted and performed on stages from Columbus to Des Moines to New York City.
